Mokokchung, 9 September (MTNews): The 3rd Quarterly National Lok Adalat for the year 2023 was held in 11 district headquarters of Nagaland and organized by the respective District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA). On this event, 11 sitting benches were constituted in the respective District Headquarters.

Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority organized the 3rd Quarterly National Lok Adalat for the year 2023 on 9 September at District Court, Mokokchung.

 

The core aim of this people’s court arrangement was to settle disputes/cases at the pre-litigation stage, i.e. even before the case is filed in the court in addition to some pending cases in the court of law which are admissible under the Lok Adalat regulation to be settled through compromised and amicable means.

 

A total of 263 cases/disputes were disposed of in the State Lok Adalat out of the total of 1217 disputes/matters/cases listed for compromise settlement which includes cases in the pending stage as well as in the pre-litigation stage, mostly in the category of bank recovery, Motor Accident Cases Tribunal (MACT) and other cases viz. public utility i.e. telephone bills and matrimonial disputes.

 

The NSLSA stated in a press release that the settlement amount involved in some of the cases amounted to a total of Rs. 3,14,73,026. “This settlement amount is the amount mutually agreed for payment between the litigants or parties who are involved in a dispute where the parties on arriving at a consensus, the willing amount to settle the disputes for the damage caused or a negotiated amount for payment on a claim by a party. Settlement amount also includes the fine money, bank recovery money, money suits, and compensation money,” it added.

 

Mokokchung DLSA conducted National Lok Adalat at District Court, Mokokchung. A total of 10 cases were taken up where 9 were at pre-litigation and 1 at pending stage. 9 cases were disposed off with a settlement amount of Rs 13,09,891.

 

Dimapur DLSA organized the 3rd National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex. The sessions began after a short briefing by Chief Judicial Magistrate and DLSA Secretary Seyielenuo Mezhü (NJS). 58 cases were disposed off with a settlement amount of Rs 1,11,81,536.

 

Longleng DLSA conducted National Lok Adalat at District Court Complex Longleng along with SBI Longleng. CJM cum Secretary DLSA Khrievono Seletsu (NJS) was the Presiding Officer, Panel Lawyer Panglang Y Phom and PLVs participated in the Lok Adalat. Ten Bank Recovery Cases at pre-litigation were disposed off with a total Settlement Amount of Rs 5,05,686.

 

Wokha DLSA conducted the National Lok Adalat at the front office, District Court Complex Wokha. Nino Iralu, District & Sessions Judge cum Chairperson DLSA was the Presiding Officer. Panel Lawyers Meribemo A Lotha and Shanchobeni P Lotha were conciliator and Panel Lawyer Jacob Kikon, PLV Abigail Lotha and Daisy Tungoe participated in the Lok Adalat. SBI, Bank of Baroda, Central Bank and NStCB participated in the Lok Adalat. 10 cases were taken up out of which 9 were loan or Bank Recovery Cases (Pre-Litigation) and 1 was pending trial cases. Altogether 9 Cases were disposed of with a settlement amount of Rs 15,88,59.

 

Zunheboto DLSA conducted the 3rd Quarterly National Lok Adalat at District Court Complex, Zunheboto.
Julian Sitlhou, JMFC cum Secretary DLSA was the presiding officer and Easter Yepthomi was the Conciliator. All together 30 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up and disposed off with a settlement amount of Rs 21,67,542.

 

Tuensang DLSA conducted 3nd quarterly National Lok Adalat at District Court premise Tuensang with Longshithung Ezung, NJS, Principal District & Sessions judge cum Chairperson DLSA and Cheliam Khiamniungan, JMFC cum secretary DLSA as presiding officers. Conciliators were Antimangyang Chang Retainer Lawyer, Herola Panel Lawyer and Birila Panel Lawyer assisted by PLVs. Twelve cases were taken up and eleven were disposed off with a total settlement amount of Rs 17,13,166.

 

Phek DLSA conducted the 3rd quarterly National Lok Adalat at the District Court complex. The Lok Adalat was presided by District & Sessions Judge cum Chairperson Neiko Akami, NJS with Retainer Lawyer and panel lawyer as conciliators. Forty matters relating to Pre-litigation bank recovery cases of SBI and NStCB were taken up and disposed off with a settlement amount of Rs 40,62,334.

 

Peren DLSA conducted the National Lok Adalat at Government College Peren Town. The Co-operative Bank Jalukie Branch along with the State Bank of India Peren Town Branch participated in the Lok Adalat for pre-litigation cases, wherein a total number of 28 cases were taken up and settled with a settled amount of Rs 42, 36,515. In the Lok Adalat, the students of Govt College Peren were also invited to come and observe the Lok Adalat proceedings as part of their LLC club activity.

 

Kohima DLSA along with the rest of the country conducted 3rd National Lok Adalat at District Court building Kohima. Nokshei Kano, Secretary and Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kohima was the Presiding Officer and Panel Lawyers Kohima DLSA as Conciliators. Altogether 966 pre-litigation Banks and Telephone recovery cases and 4 pending bank recovery cases was put up before the National Lok Adalat, whereby, 34 bank recovery case and 16 telephone bill recovery case have been settled through the Lok Adalat with settlement amount of Rs 29,55,784. The Banks and Telephone authority waived Rs 33,44,781 through the negotiation of the conciliators.

 

Mon DLSA conducted National Lok Adalat where the event was presided over by CJM cum Secretary DLSA B. Peter Resu, serving as the Presiding Officer, Topha Konyak, N Mannon and Angun Konyak as the conciliators. In total, 46 cases were taken up during the session, and out of those, 16 cases were successfully disposed of. The total settlement amount reached Rs. 17,06,978.
