Speaking at the Yakutpura Assembly meeting in Hyderabad on 18 September 2023, Nagaland Congress President Supongmeren Jamir expressed strong optimism about the Congress party’s chances in the upcoming Telangana state assembly election.
In a conversation with Mokokchung Times, Jamir described the rally as a mega event, attended by approximately 10 lakh people. He acknowledged the ruling K Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) strong grip on the state but believes that change is on the horizon, stating, “After Karnataka, the political landscape is evolving.”
He also viewed that the BJP in that state is not up to the game while he expressed his confidence in the Telangana Congress chief A Revanth Reddy.
Jamir’s remarks centered on the “Six Guarantees” laid out by the Congress for the Telangana election:
Mahalakshmi Scheme: This initiative offers 2,500 monthly financial assistance for women, free bus travel for women statewide, and LPG cylinders at the subsidized rate of Rs. 500.
Rythu Bharosa: The scheme promises Rs 15,000 per year for farmers and tenant farmers.
Yuva Vikasam: It includes the Vidya Bharosa Card worth Rs 5 lakhs for students and a proposal to establish a Telangana international school in every Mandal.
Indiramma Indlu: This guarantee provides land for housing and financial support of 5 lakhs for construction for those without their own homes.
Gruha Jyothi: Under this scheme, every household will receive 200 units of free electricity.
Cheyutha: The initiative assures a monthly pension of Rs 4,000 for the elderly and coverage of Rs 10 lakhs under the Rajiv Aarogyasri insurance.
These guarantees are integral components of the Congress party’s manifesto for the upcoming Telangana election.
Presently, Telangana is governed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s (BRS) K Chandrashekar Rao, who has clarified that his party will not align with the INDIA alliance or the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
In the southern region, the BJP has not enjoyed significant dominance. G Kishan Reddy currently serves as the president of BJP Telangana.
As political activities intensify, a team of Election Commission of India officials is set to visit Telangana for a three-day assessment starting from 3 October. Their mission will encompass a comprehensive review of election-related matters and the potential establishment of deadlines for pending tasks, along with providing guidance on addressing any gaps in the election process.
