Longkhum Village on Saturday received a new Tourist Information Booth, installed and funded by the Nagaland Chapter of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), as efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure in the village continue.
The booth was formally inaugurated and handed over to the Longkhum Village Council at a program organised by the village council. The project cost over Rs 3 lakh.
L Mefutiba, Co-Convenor of INTACH Nagaland Chapter, said the facility now belonged to the village and expressed hope that the community would take good care of it.
He noted that tourism in Longkhum dates back around 40 years and urged the community to rise above differences and work together towards progress and development, particularly in the tourism sector.
Mefutiba said the INTACH Nagaland Chapter was instituted in 2006 by then Governor of Nagaland Shyamal Datta, in the presence of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, and has since undertaken various heritage and tourism-related initiatives.
He said the chapter had earlier initiated a tourist information booth at Khonoma and is also currently involved in heritage conservation projects. Four heritage buildings are presently on its list – three in Mokokchung district and one in Kohima district. These include a church at Impur Mission Centre, two bungalows in Mokokchung district and a more than 100-year-old bungalow located between Kohima and Piphema.
The INTACH initiative comes alongside other tourism-related interventions in Longkhum. Since 2025, NEIDA has been supporting tourism infrastructure in the village, including homestays, waste management and benches at tourist locations.
The initiatives are aimed at improving facilities for visitors while creating greater opportunities for the village to participate in tourism.
With its distinctive landscapes and tourist spots, Longkhum has continued to attract visitors, while the development of accommodation and basic visitor amenities is gradually adding to the village’s tourism infrastructure.
The village’s homestay facilities now provide visitors with an option to stay within Longkhum and experience the village and its surroundings.
