Nagaland Lok Sabha MP Supongmeren Jamir held a crucial meeting with officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on November 14 at the HM Resort in Dibrugarh. The discussions focused on several important railway projects affecting the state, including the Dimapur-Tuli-Tizit railway connection and the Tuli Railway extension.
Regarding the Dimapur-Tuli-Tizit railway line, MP Jamir was informed that the new railway line project connecting Dimapur to Tizit, passing through the new Tuli station, has been kept in abeyance. This decision was made by the Railway Board as per the directive issued on September 24, 2019. Jamir urged the NFR to review the status of this project to assess the feasibility of moving forward.
Jamir also raised questions about the Tuli Railway extension. A Railway Electrification and Track (RET) survey for the extension from Tuli to Tuli Town was sanctioned by the Railway Board in 2009-10. However, despite the completion of the RET survey, the project was shelved by the Railway Board in 2011. Currently, no passenger trains operate on this line, although the commercial feasibility for running such services is being explored. It was also shared that the improvement of the goods circulating area and the approach road at Tuli Railway Station was completed by June 30, 2024.
The MP requested that both the Dimapur-Tuli-Tizit railway connection and the Tuli extension be reviewed for possible progress.
In discussions related to the upgradation of Dimapur Railway Station, Jamir learned that the NFR Construction Organization is overseeing the work in connection with the new Dimapur-Shokhuvi-Zubza rail line. The tender for the upgradation of Dimapur station has been opened, and the finalization of the tender is currently underway.
Additionally, the status of the Dimapur-Shokhuvi-Zubza rail line project was discussed. The construction is being managed by the NFR Construction Organization as part of the new rail line in Nagaland.
MP Jamir also requested an extension of the stoppage time at Dimapur Railway Station for the Jan Shadabdi (Jorhat), Nagaland Express (Dibrugarh), and BG Express (Mariani) trains, asking for the stoppage time to be increased from the current 7 minutes to 15 minutes. Furthermore, he proposed an extension of the Mariani BG Express to Tuli station to better serve the region.
These ongoing discussions reflect Jamir’s continuous efforts to enhance railway infrastructure in Nagaland, with an emphasis on improving connectivity and convenience for the people of the state.
