Kohima, 22 May (MTNews): The State Police Nodal officer informed today that the total election related criminal cases registered in Nagaland during the last General Assembly Election was 70. This was revealed during a review meeting held by Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar today.

 

 

It was also informed that a total of 81 persons were arrested while the total persons charge-sheeted were 7 and cases in which investigations are going on are 61.

 

A press release from the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer stated that the main purpose of the meeting was not only to review the status of election related criminal cases but also to ensure that active follow-up action continues on such cases even after the completion of the election process.

 

Further, it was informed that all the districts would be regularly sending monthly reports on the status of action taken report of criminal cases registered during the last General Election to be reviewed by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer and Election Commission of India. The meeting was attended by State Police Nodal Officer and IG range, Limasunep Jamir and officers from the CEO’s office.
