Sovima, 26 May (MTNews): Chümoukedima defeated Peren by 58 runs in the first match of the day played at Nagaland Cricket Stadium to book its slot in the semifinals.
Sent in to bat first by the Peren, team Chümoukedima displayed yet another explicit batting performance as Keniezetuo Rio (16), Mughavi Sumi (26), Sedezhalie Rupreo (46* not out) and Imliwati (22) all finely contributed to pose 148 runs on the board in a 20 overs reduced match. OM Sangma was the pick of the Peren bowlers as he took 3 wickets while Bamyibe Npanme and Poiring picked up 1 wicket each.
Peren came in for the run chase with an approachable attitude for a win but the disciplined bowling attack from the Chümoukedima side restricted their brave efforts as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and couldn’t build any partnerships to sustain their run chase. Peren could manage to muster only 90 runs losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. Imliwati and Keduowhetuo picked up 2 wickets each while Mhalevor, Khrievitso and Aniezo took 1 wicket each for the Chümoukedima team.
Chumu’s captain Imliwati was adjudged Man of the Match for scoring 22 runs and bagging 2 wickets.
The second match at the venue between Mokokchung and Kiphire was abandoned due to rain. With no result, both teams are now out of the tournament.
Meanwhile, in the other match played at Sovima Cricket Ground, Longleng defeated Wokha resulting in both teams bowing out of the tournament. Wokha required a win to qualify for the semifinals; however, Longleng defeated them by 33 runs as both teams now bow out of the tournament.
Having sent in to bat first, Longleng managed to pile up 139 runs in 19.4 overs having lost all wickets. The opening batsman shared a 65-run partnership as Moakumzuk made 50 runs and Shingpang made 21 runs. Bidesi Nayak and Arjun Kumar Yadav contributed 45 and 11 runs respectively for Longleng to pose a target of 140 runs for a must win for Wokha.
Bowling first, Nchumbemo Kikon led the charge for Wokha as he scalped 4 wickets in 4 overs. Renchio Odyuo and Mhachamo M Mozhui took 2 wickets each while Romokhon Humtsoe had to settle for 1 wicket.
Nzanthung Mozhui (20) and Renjamo Y Mozhui (36) combined in the run chase to give Wokha a good start and was later duly supported by Nchumbemo Kikon 16 runs (not out) and Romokhon Humtsoe 10 runs (not out) but the disciplined bowling from Longleng restricted Wokha to a tally of 106 runs in the limited 20 overs.
Arjun Kumar Yadav and Shingpang were the pick of the Longleng bowlers as they scalped 2 wickets each while Moakumzuk and Baudok H Phom also contributed by taking a wicket each thus drawing curtains for the Wokha team and winning it by 33 runs.
