“During the meeting, we deliberated about the serious concerns of the ISM workers such as safety and security, health facilities, education for the children of ISM workers, food security and language barriers. I appealed to all the stakeholders to deal with the Inter-State Migrant Workers compassionately for a better understanding of their needs and situations,” Pastor Wapangtoshi said.

The meeting was chaired by K Jeyabalan, Additional Commissioner of Labour Department, Trichy and it was attended by the Joint Directors of Industrial Safety and Health, the Joint Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners of Labour (Enforcement), Personal Assistants (General) to District Collectors, representative of the Commissioner of Police, Trichy City and representative of Superintendent of Police from all the concerned districts.

Pastor Wapangtoshi also informed that the Tamil Nadu government has created a separate portal http://labour.tn.gov.in/ism exclusively for uploading the details of Interstate Migrant Workers working in Tamil Nadu.

From June 2022 to March 2023, a total of 6,34,566 Migrant Workers details have been uploaded in the above Inter-State Migrant (ISM) Portal. “The Inter-State Migrant workers are directed to get registered in order to receive benefits from various Government schemes and policies. Moreover, the employers are also responsible to assist the ISM workers to do the registration in the official portal,” Pastor Wapangtoshi said.

“Since there are many people from Nagaland and Northeast India working in the unorganized sector in Tamil Nadu, I hope this information will help them to do the necessary registration in the Tamil Nadu Government portal to get access to various Government schemes and facilities,” he said.
