Mokokchung, 5 April (MTNews): NDPP President and Chairman of PDA, Chingwang Konyak appealed to Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) to reconsider the boycott of the Lok Sabha election 2024. He appealed to the ENPO to have an “understanding with the state government on what is being offered,” adding that, “even if it is small, it will benefit the people of Eastern Nagaland.” He said this during the mass rally held for the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) consensus candidate Dr Chumben Murry for the ensuing Lok Sabha election today in Mokokchung.

Highlighting the importance of participation in elections, Konyak cautioned against the Eastern Nagas’ boycott of both Centre and State elections, noting that such actions would incur losses primarily for their community.

“Following this Lok Sabha election, we will have municipal elections. If we don’t participate in the election, it will only be a loss for the Eastern Nagas, not the other Nagas,” he said.

Konyak further reiterated that abstention from election will be “ENPO’s loss” and that “abstention from election will not give us our demand.”

Konyak also called Dr Murry the “right candidate” to represent Nagas in the Indian Parliament. He highlighted that the PDA has provided a “stable and strong leadership” in Nagaland and appealed to the people of Mokokchung to vote for the PDA candidate and appealed to the Mokokchung citizens to not vote on tribal lines.

It may be noted that the candidate for the opposing party, the Indian National Congress (INC), S Supongmeren Jamir is from Mokokchung district.
