Mokokchung, 7 September (MTNews): The Association of Kohima Municipal Ward Panchayat (AKMWP), the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) and the All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) on Thursday reiterated their earlier resolution not to allow taxation on land and buildings in municipal and town councils.

“The three municipalities strongly stand with the resolutions No. 2 and 3 passed by the three municipal and town councils of Nagaland during a joint meeting held on 21st March 2023 at Kohima, where it was resolved, not to allow any form of taxation on property i.e.” tax on land and building” either in municipal or town councils,” the joint statement said.

In regard to the new Nagaland Municipal Act, which is in the process of being framed by a panel appointed by the state government, AKMWP, DUCCF, and AWUMT urged the government to frame the new Act “as per the applicability of the Nagas without infringing the special rights guaranteed under Article 371 A of the Indian constitution.”

“In the event of the government failing to frame the new Act as per the wishes of the Nagas, the three municipalities and town council will not participate nor allow any candidate to file nomination or contest ULB election in future,” it added.
