Mokokchung, June 28 (MTNews): Several officials of the National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland State along with a number of district unit presidents on Tuesday declared mass resignation from the party with immediate effect citing loss of faith in the state president’s leadership.

 

Addressing a press conference at Hotel Saramati on Tuesday, Limanuksung Longkumer, National Secretary NPP and General Secretary (Organization), NPP Nagaland state, stated that due to “ongoing circumstances we are facing right now,” they were rendering mass resignation from active and primary membership of the party.

 

“Being one of the founding members of the party, unfortunately I express my deepest regret on being a member as the party failed to control its functionaries,” he said.

 

He also read out the resignation letter addressed to the national president, NPP, Conrad Sangma, signed by the resigning officials from the party’s parent body, its youth front, state women wing and the district units of Mon, Longleng, Tuensang, Kiphire and Mokokchung led by the respective presidents.

 

The letter stated that they had tendered resignation from various posts as well as from primary and active membership of National People’s Party with immediate effect, saying, “we have lost faith in the leadership of Andrew Ahoto Sema, President, Nagaland State.”

 

“We have served the party with utmost dedication and it was an honour to work under your dynamic leadership. We also take this opportunity to convey our gratitude for giving us the platform to serve the party,” it read.

 

Meanwhile, the NPP Nagaland State issued a ten-point statement clarifying the party’s position. The statement said that the party was “totally flabbergasted over the unconstitutional manner in which some handful and dissident members of the party has announced through a press conference that they are tendering a mass resignation citing reason that they have lost their faith on the State President.” (Read full text here)
