Mokokchung, January 19 (MTNews): The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) has said that Nagas are today at the crossroads if they can withstand the pressure that has been mounted under the enticing slogan “Modi for peace and development.” But for the Nagas, the NSCN-IM said, Modi must first respect his own commitment to the Framework Agreement in order to pave the way for peace and development. “That is the starting point for Naga’s pride and identity,” the NSCN-IM said in the editorial column of its mouthpiece Nagalim Voice.

In the January edition of the bulletin released to the media today, the NSCN-IM noted that “nothing is more sacred for the NSCN than defending Naga national principles in safeguarding the Naga national identity.” The bulletin further said that this is the test of “true revolutionary spirit and commitment to the Naga national cause.”

According to the NSCN-IM bulletin, seven years ago, the historic Framework Agreement was worked out with the government of India based on the “Naga unique history and Naga national principle.” It said that last year when the Indo-Naga political talks were going through “rough patch with unpredictable situation, Emergency National Assembly was convened at General Headquarters of the Naga Army whereby Naga national decision was taken to uphold and protect Naga unique history and Naga national principle at any cost and thereby to stand by the sanctity of the Framework Agreement that was signed on the foundation of respect for and recognition of the sovereignty of the two entities-Nagalim and India.”

The bulletin then said, “This also signifies that the sovereignty of the Nagas is acknowledged in conjunction with the Naga national flag and the constitution.”

“This being the case, come what may, NSCN will stand the ground to defend our historical and political rights,” the NSCN-IM bulletin asserted. “Therefore, the line has to be drawn to identify what is sacrosanct and what is negotiable and what is not negotiable in order to avoid messing up the Naga political issue and undermine the sanctity of Indo-Naga political dialogue as established by Framework Agreement,” it added.
