Nagaland will experience light rainfall and moderate cloudy rain in almost all districts until March 25, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) stated in an update on Thursday.
During this period, thunderstorms with lightning are expected in the districts of Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Mon, Peren, Phek, and Tuensang, the NSDMA added.
According to the NSDMA, light to moderate rain is expected in the districts of Longleng, Mokokchung, Noklak, Shamatore, Tseminyu, and Zunheboto. As a result, it is essential to take necessary precautions during this period, including avoiding lightning strikes and strong winds, which could disrupt communication and connectivity.
“Due to the risk of high precipitation in the hill sector, Nagaland’s lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit, and Tuli, are vulnerable to inundation, waterlogging, and flash floods,” the NSDMA informed.
In this regard, the NSDMA, Home Department, urged the public to exercise caution to prevent any untoward incidents during this period. It also requested all District Disaster Management Authorities and other line departments to remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property during the monsoon season.
