Mokokchung, 6 March (MTNews): Nagaland University (NU) hosted a talk on ‘My Vote, My Right’ in alignment with the Government of India’s campaign ‘#Mera Pehla Vote Desh Ke Liye’. The event took place at the University’s headquarters in Lumami on 6 March, aimed to promote awareness and understanding of the electoral system in India, an update received here said.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, graced the occasion as the chief guest, delivering a thought-provoking speech on the intricacies of the electoral system in India. His insights shed light on the significance of each citizen’s role in shaping the nation through the democratic process.
The program featured additional enlightening speeches, including one by Prof. Mithilesh Kumar Sinha, who discussed the fundamental principles of democracy and the constitution. Prof. H John Sema shared his personal experiences, offering valuable insights into the voting traditions of Nagaland. Dr Nezanhuo Golmei presided as the Chairperson of the event. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Suraj Beri, acknowledging the collective enthusiasm and participation in the noble cause of promoting democratic values.
On the preceding days, Nagaland University actively participated in related activities. On 4 March, the university organized a Signature Campaign, engaging the university community and encouraging them to express their commitment to democratic values. Following this, on 5 March, a Voter’s Pledge Ceremony was held, further emphasizing the importance of active participation in the electoral process.
Mr Ashish Kumar, the PRO i/c, expressed satisfaction with the positive turnout of faculties, officials, research scholars, and students who attended the program. The collective efforts of the university community highlighted the commitment towards fostering a culture of responsible citizenship and civic engagement, the update said.
