Promoting pro-environmental behavioral changes in daily life | Clean Mokokchung Campaign runs RRR Center

In a move towards sustainable waste management, the Clean Mokokchung Campaign (CMC) ran a Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) Center at the main gate of Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on Tuesday. The RRR Centers in Mokokchung are an initiative of the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) under the scheme “Meri Life Mera Swachh Shehar” campaign under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0.

The MMC had also launched an RRR Center at the MMC Shopping Complex basement on Saturday. The ceremonial ribbon-cutting of the RRR Center, run by CMC, was done by Chumlamo Humtsoe, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Mokokchung. The ADC expressed gratitude to the CMC for its participation in the campaign for the greater good of the town and the environment, highlighting that the RRR centers are a voluntary campaign.

Furthermore, the ADC encouraged the citizens of the town to donate items as well as find useful things at the RRR centers, stating, “For some, it may be trash, but for another, it may be treasure.”

Lima Imchen, a member of the CMC, reported that the overall turnout at the center for the day was very positive and encouraging. Imchen mentioned that nursery students from a school visited the center and donated various items, while a Civil Service aspirant found a particular book he had been searching for, which he said were the highpoints of the day.

Imchen added that the center would be relocated to Imlong Place starting from Wednesday, emphasizing that the new venue is rainproof and conveniently located in the town center, attracting people from all walks of life.
The ADC had previously announced that among the RRR Centers, a winner would be chosen on World Environment Day (5 June 2023) based on citizen participation in the campaign.

With the aim of promoting pro-environmental behavioral changes in daily life, aligned with the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), citizens can contribute unused or used items like clothes, shoes, books, toys, e-waste, and plastics for reuse or recycling.

RRR centers are operational at Sungkomen Ward, Salangtem Ward, Aongza Ward, MMC Complex, and Imlong Place.
