The tripartite talks held in New Delhi between the Government of India, Government of Manipur, and the United Naga Council (UNC) held on Friday concluded without any breakthrough. A resolution issued after the meeting stated that the talks between the Ministry of Home Affairs (GoI), the Government of Manipur (GoI), and the UNC were held on Friday in New Delhi.
The discussions focused on the creation of seven new districts by the Government of Manipur, as per Notification No. 16/20/2016-R, dated December 8, 2016, and the UNC’s demand for the rollback of these districts. The meeting was conducted in a cordial atmosphere, with mutual agreement that further progress would be achieved through sustained engagement, aiming to resolve the issue in a time-bound manner, while considering previous commitments.
The delegation from the Government of India was led by A.K. Mishra, Advisor (North East), Ministry of Home Affairs. The Government of Manipur was represented by Vineet Joshi, Chief Secretary, and N. Ashok Kumar, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Home), along with seven representatives from the UNC.
All parties agreed to hold the next round of talks on November 15, 2024, in Senapati, Manipur, it was reported.
