Heavy floods, caused by incessant rains, washed away the Tzütsüng irrigation dam in Moalenden village, under Mokokchung district, on the night of April 20, triggering a flash flood that damaged many rice fields and farms.

The Chairman of the Moalenden Village Council confirmed that more than fifty fields and farms belonging to Longsa, Chubayimkum, and Moalenden villages have been affected. Some of the rice fields have been totally swept away by the torrent, including some farmhouses, while the whole area has been inundated. Authorities are expected to visit the affected area on Monday. The extent of damage caused is yet to be officially assessed.
