The 4th Winter Open Airgun Shooting Competition, organised by the Airgun Sporting Association of Nagaland (ASAN), was held on December 14, 2024, at the Likya Community Hall in Wokha. Nzano P Kikon, Deputy Chairperson of the Wokha Town Council, graced the event as the special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Kikon lauded the association for its efforts in promoting sports in the region. She highlighted the importance of female participation in competitive sports, citing instances where women have outperformed men on international sporting stages. Noting the absence of female competitors this year, she encouraged women to take part in shooting sports. She also commended ASAN for providing a platform for emerging shooters, emphasizing the potential for Wokha’s athletes to compete internationally.
Ajit John, a founding member of ASAN, shared the association’s vision of expanding its reach beyond Wokha to other districts, such as Kohima and Dimapur. He stressed the importance of focusing on grassroots development to ensure equal opportunities for shooters across Nagaland. He also expressed gratitude to the event sponsors, including AZ Communication and Trading, M/S TR Lotha Electrical Division, IZZE Collection, and R Murry Gun House, for their continued support.
The winners of the competition were L Yibomo Odyuo, who claimed the championship title, followed by Benathung Ovung as the first runner-up and M Nyamo Odyuo in third place.
