Kohima, March 6 (MTNews): Nagaland state BJP leader Y Patton was re-elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party (BLP) on Monday and is likely to be sworn-in as the Deputy CM tomorrow.

Y Patton was unanimously elected in a meeting of the newly elected BJP legislators along with BJP Central Observer, Ranjit Kumar Das, who is a minister in Assam, and Nalin Kohli, BJP National Spokesperson and Nagaland in-charge, at Hotel Vivor in Kohima.

Speaking to a section of media persons, Kohli said, “State BJP President Temjen Imna Along proposed the name of Patton and two senior legislators, Jacob Zhimomi and Paiwang Konyak seconded.”

Kohli also said that the BJP Legislature Party has written a letter of support for the NDPP, which will be handed to NDPP leader Neiphiu Rio to form the next government in Nagaland.

Further, Kohli refuted all speculations of other political parties joining the NDPP-BJP alliance.

“There is only one alliance in Nagaland and that is NDPP- BJP. We fought it together, 40 candidates for NDPP and 20 for BJP. The people of Nagaland have voted for peace and development and they have the desire to see that the work of the double engine government must continue with Prime Minister Modi in the centre and Chief Minister Rio in Nagaland,” Kohli said.

On his election as the leader of BLP, Patton said, “Humbled and honored to have been elected as the BLP Leader! My profound gratitude to each of the state BJP legislators for placing their trust in me! I assure to work tirelessly to fulfill the expectations of our party and the people of Nagaland.”

Meanwhile, the state BJP President Temjen Imna Along, who was nowhere to be seen in the meetings in Kohima today, had reportedly left for Guwahati on the call of NEDA Convenor and Assam CM, Himanta Biswa Sarma to discuss the cabinet berths in the new government.
