Wokha, 11 January (MTNews): The 28th Winter Cricket Challenge witnessed a low scoring but thrilling match day as LCYO CC and Highlanders triumphed in their respective encounters, securing coveted spots in the semifinals.

In the first match of the day, LCYO CC won the toss and elected to bat first against Kohima Royals, setting a target of 98 runs in 16.1 overs. The innings saw a challenging batting display, with only three batsmen reaching double figures. Renben Kikon contributed 16, Epithung scored 15, and Chenithung added 19, while Thechamo Odyuo chipped in with 11. Kohima Royals faced a tough task in their chase, ultimately falling short by just 1 run in 20 overs, with only three batsmen reaching double figures. Robin Patton scored 19, Mhonbemo Kithan added 32, and Yankio contributed 13.

Thechamo Odyuo’s stellar performance, claiming 4 wickets and scoring 11 runs, earned him the well-deserved title of the man of the match.

In the second match played between Highlanders and Elite CC, the former won the toss and chose to bat first, setting a target of 110 runs with a loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Key contributors to the innings were Jitu with 31, Asif with 21, and Mughavi with 35. In the second innings, Elite CC faced a tough challenge in chasing the target. Despite a commendable effort, they fell short, losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. Highlanders emerged victorious by 13 runs in the 20th over. Imomenba scored 13, Sameer Ali, and Zidu both contributed 15 for Elite CC. Asif of Highlanders was declared the man of the match for his crucial performance, scoring 21 runs and claiming 1 wicket while bowling.
