Salangtem Youth Union (SYU) has officially announced the first-ever Open Futsal Tournament, set to take place from 20 to 22 June in Mokokchung. The tournament aims to promote young players and provide them with a platform to showcase their skills. Under the aegis of the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA), this event promises to be an exciting and competitive showcase of futsal talent.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at Salangtem Youth Hall today, where the organizers shared the details of the tournament. The SYU, with the support of the MDFA, is determined to contribute to the promotion and empowerment of the youths in the region and provide aspiring players with a chance to shine.

 

One of the highlights of the tournament is the attractive cash prizes that will be awarded to the top-performing teams. The champion team will receive a handsome cash prize of Rs 60,000 while the runner-up will be awarded Rs 40,000. The third-place team will also be recognized with a cash prize of Rs 10,000. Additionally, there will be individual prizes for outstanding players, with a cash reward of Rs 2,000 and citations presented to the highest scorer, best defender, best goalkeeper, best striker, and the most promising player.

 

The matches are set to be held at the state-of-the-art Mojabi Futsal Turf in Salangtem Ward.

 

To add an extra element of excitement, the organizers have also unveiled plans of various opening and closing programs filled with entertainment activities during the tournament. Spectators can also look forward to various food stalls which organizers are planning to set up.

 

The tournament has gained significant support from its official partner and sponsor, Nagaland Minerals and Mines. Their contribution will go a long way in ensuring the success of the event and providing the necessary resources for its organization. Mokokchung Times, the local media outlet, has been appointed as the tournament’s media partner, further amplifying its reach and coverage.

 

Teams interested in participating in the Open Futsal Tournament have until 15 June to register themselves for the tournament. The fixtures for the tournament will be drawn on 17 June, revealing the match-ups and schedule for the exciting three-day event. So far, about twenty teams have already registered, including teams from other districts such as Dimapur and Kohima, the organizers informed.

 

The organizers have expressed their enthusiasm for the growing interest in the tournament, with the number of registered teams exceeding their expectations. The participation of teams from outside Mokokchung is expected to enhance the competitiveness of the tournament and foster a spirit of healthy competition among players.

 

In addition to the cash prizes and individual accolades, the best-performing clubs or individuals will have the opportunity to represent Mokokchung district under the guidance of the MDFA in the inter-district futsal tournament organized by the Nagaland Football Association (NFA) annually. This recognition will provide an added incentive for participants to perform at their best and showcase the potential of players to further their careers on a broader stage.
