Khensa, 30 July (MTNews): Mokokchung District came together to mark the ‘World Day against Trafficking in Persons’ on 30 July with a collaborative effort by the District administration, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), and Sakhi-One Stop Centre. The event was held in conjunction with the Youth Ministry of Khensa Baptist Church and centered on the theme, “Reach Every Victim of Trafficking. Leave No One Behind.”

During the program, Moamenla Longkumer, the Mission Coordinator for District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), provided an overview of the ‘Mission Shakti’ scheme. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, aims to strengthen interventions for women’s safety, security, and empowerment.

 

The speaker for the event, Tajungla Longkumer, an advocate from Sakhi One-Stop Centre, delved into the intricate details of understanding the meaning and various forms of trafficking. She emphasized the importance of awareness about the Acts provided by the constitution to combat trafficking effectively. Tajungla also shed light on the different types of trafficking that occur, urging the attendees to remain vigilant and informed about the methods used by traffickers.

 

In her address, Tajungla Longkumer reminded everyone that the fight against trafficking should not solely rest on the shoulders of concerned organizations, lawyers, or stakeholders. Instead, she stressed that it is the collective responsibility of every responsible citizen to raise awareness and take action to bring about meaningful change in society.

 

The initiative for observing the World Day against Trafficking in Persons was taken up under the aegis of “Bedi Bachao, Bedi Padhao” campaign in Mokokchung District.
