In a major boost to Aadhaar service delivery in Nagaland, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Thursday inaugurated the state’s first Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) at Purana Bazar in Dimapur.

Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Election, H. Tovihoto Ayemi, who inaugurated the facility as chief guest, described the centre as a long-cherished dream for the state and said it would make Aadhaar enrolment and update services more accessible and convenient for the people.
Highlighting the growing importance of Aadhaar, Ayemi said the identity document has become indispensable for accessing various government services, school admissions, scholarships and entrance examinations. He stressed the need for timely enrolment and mandatory biometric updates at the ages of five and fifteen and noted that Nagaland still has considerable scope to improve Aadhaar enrolment coverage.
Pointing out that residents earlier had to travel to Guwahati for certain Aadhaar-related services, he said the new centre would spare citizens the inconvenience, expenses and loss of time involved in such journeys.
“The launch of the centre will greatly benefit senior citizens, children and persons with disabilities by bringing essential services closer to their doorstep,” he said.
Director of UIDAI Regional Office, Guwahati, Col. Abhishek Koushik, said the Aadhaar Seva Kendra had been established to provide residents with safe, secure and transparent Aadhaar-related services.
Deputy Director General, UIDAI Regional Office, Guwahati, Ngachan Zimik, underscored the importance of achieving Aadhaar enrolment saturation in Nagaland and urged parents and guardians to complete mandatory biometric updates for children at the ages of five and fifteen. He informed that the updates are being provided free of cost until September 30, 2026.
Located at Purana Bazar, the centre can process up to 250 enrolment and update requests daily and offers services such as new enrolment, demographic and biometric updates, and Aadhaar download and printing facilities. Residents can also book appointments online through the UIDAI Appointment Portal at bookappointment.uidai.gov.in/. The centre will remain open on all seven days of the week except on public holidays, making Aadhaar services more accessible and convenient for the public.
