In a display of unwavering support, Advisor of IPR, and Soil and Water Conservation, Imkong L Imchen, stood in solidarity with the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF). The incident, which occurred earlier today, left the NSF building in shambles and the organization’s flag dragged to the ground.

The NSF later held a brief function where they hoisted the NSF flag in the presence of Advisor Imkong Imchen. Stating that the NSF may not have a building today but “the office of the NSF is still active, alive and kicking”, Imchen extended his support and hoped that the students will successfully overcome the tragedy.

According to Imchen, he shares a ‘memory lane’ with the office and narrated how it was in 1983 while he was working as the NSF General Secretary, the federation under the then president Vizolie Sorhie ‘initially occupied the building’.

He recalled how the then General Secretary of the Naga Club gave them the authorization letter to occupy the Naga Club building and they paid a ‘security fee’ of Rs 500 to the Naga Club to occupy the building which was then occupied by the forest department.

“Starting from the 1950s, Nagaland’s situation was very hard and, therefore, Naga Club was not functioning, almost defunct. Our tenure was 1983-85. We have taken authorization from the GS of Naga Club. We made a security deposit, then we occupied the building,” he shared his profound memory with Mokokchung Times.

He went on to say how it was his president, his finance secretary and himself who initiated to occupy the building. “Now both of them are gone and I am the only living soul. Therefore, I thought that I should be there and stand in solidarity with the students,” he added.

Moreover, he said, “the vandalisation is a total criminal act so they should not have done the way they have done. It is simply unacceptable and should be condemned by one and all.”

He went on to say that NSF has a long history and is a legacy of the Nagas and therefore, “A true and genuine Naga blood should not think of doing such heinous criminal activity.”

“I was very much hurt. It was painful to witness,” he confided.

Speaking on the speculations about the culprits being Naga Club, the Advisor said he does not wish to speculate.

“I can only say that the elderly land owners of the Kohima village were so good that they fully donated the present site where the Naga Club has established their office and that was history in the making. The small plot of land where the NSF office is located belongs to certain individuals. It was their forefathers who contributed their plot of land for the Naga common cause. So, if I were his children or grandchildren, I would feel proud about my forefathers instead of disputing and contesting with NSF. This is unbecoming of the Nagas,” he added.

However, the MLA remains hopeful that the culprits will be caught and that the law will take its own course of action.
