Peren, January 14 (MTNews): Azailong emerged as the champion of the Old Jalukie Village Shifting Day Memorial Volleyball Tournament 2023 by defeating Deukwaram at Old Jalukie Village Sector-C. The tournament which began on January 10 with 13 teams competing for the coveted title concluded on January 13 with Namgong, Advisor, Peren District Chairman Union (PDCU) as the guest of honour for the closing ceremony.

A press note from the Tournament Board stated that it was an open event under Peren District and was played on inter village/town (league) basis with best of three in league rounds and best of five in knockout stages. In the final match, Azailong defeated Deukwaram in 4 sets (best of five).

 

The winner Azailong walked home richer with a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 with trophy and certificates while the runners-up Deukwaram received a cash amount of Rs. 20,000 with trophy and certificates. The losing semi-finalists Tampung and Ndunglwa also received Rs. 3000 each.

 

In the individual awards, Pauleuhingbe of Deukwaram was awarded the ‘Player of the Tournament’, Idalia Samding of Azailong bagged the best setter award and Namdorai of Azailong was adjudged as the best spiker. All the individual award winners also received Rs. 1000 each.

 

The special guest Namgong handed over the prizes to the winners and de-hoisted the tournament flag.

 

The program was compered by Paubamleube and Suiyingaule, special number by youth department Old Jalukie Baptist Church, vote of thanks was proposed by secretary tournament board, Habe Kenn and benediction by deacon Old Jalukie Baptist Church, Heudabe Mpom.
