The Mokokchung Police has filed a chargesheet and submitted it to the court in the murder of late Imkongjeba Kichu of Chungtia village, a Police source said.

Imkongjeba, 34, had gone missing on 21 February this year while he and another person, both residents of Chungtia village, were returning home from a funeral when a few “masked men” attacked the vehicle they were travelling in. A day later, his body was found by a road in a forested area.

The incident happened in the run up to the recently held Nagaland assembly elections.

The chargesheet has been filed against the 9 individuals in custody and have submitted the same to the court, the police said on Thursday.

Once the charge sheet has been submitted to the court of law, prosecution proceedings against the accused will begin in the judicial system.

The police source also said that additional chargesheets will be filed upon receiving forensics and other reports, which are outsourced out of the state.
