Mokokchung, 25 May (MTNews): In a significant move aimed at ensuring public safety and compliance with the Arms (Amendment) Act, 2019, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh IAS has issued a notification to all Arms License holders in Mokokchung District.

 

The notification, as per the Government’s Office Memorandum dated 17 January 2020, outlines the necessary actions to be taken by individuals who possess more than two firearms.

 

Under Section 3 (2) of the Arms (Amendment) Act, 2019, individuals who possess more than two firearms are required to retain any two of such firearms with them, while the remaining firearms must be deposited at specified locations. These locations include the Officer in Charge of the nearest police station, the licensed dealer, or the Unit Armoury, in the case of Armed Forces personnel, as mentioned in Section 21(i) of the Arms Act, 1959.

 

Therefore, in this regard, the DC of Mokokchung has notified all such excess firearms to be deposited in the aforementioned places and informed that the licenses of such excess firearms shall be surrendered to the licensing authority i.e. Office of the Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung within 3 (three) months from the date of issue of the notification.
