Mokokchung, October 10 (MTNews): As Mallikarjun Kharge faces Shashi Tharoor in the upcoming Congress party presidential election that is to be held on October 17 for the first time in 20 years, former Nagaland chief minister KL Chishi has extended his support openly to Shashi Tharoor through his official Twitter account.

Chishi wrote, “INC urgently needs infusion of young blood. Old days are gone, new era must begin. Dr @ShashiTharoor is an eminent intellectual & has a bright outlook for younger generations. I support his candidature for Congress President as he can bring change in the party & the country.”

To this, the MP from Kerala, Tharoor responded, “Thank you KL Chishi ji. Coming from an eminent former CM like you, I am deeply honoured.”

KL Chishi is also the only candidate from Nagaland who has openly declared his interest for contesting from the Atoizu assembly constituency in a Congress ticket in the upcoming Nagaland Legislative Assembly Election.

Meanwhile, Tharoor, despite refusing to ascribe any blame to party chief Sonia Gandhi and son Rahul Gandhi has hinted that there are certain aspects that imply an “uneven playing field.” He said this at an NDTV town hall in Mumbai, disclosing that some leaders had told him they were “under pressure” to back Mr Kharge, seen as the choice of the Gandhis.
