Fire Service Week 2026 was observed across Nagaland with awareness drives, competitions and mock drills. North East Christian University (NECU), Dimapur, conducted a campus mock drill in collaboration with Fire Station Central Dimapur, while Kiphire Fire Station organized safety demonstrations, sports events and an essay competition.

At NECU, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized the April 20 programme under the theme, “Safe School, Safe Hospital and Fire Safety Aware Society – Together for Fire Prevention.” Poster competition winners were Wadechaba Aier, Likhuvu Zhimo and Khelileng, while Lovito A. Shohe, Peshie H and Luolavor Louis secured the top three positions in the essay competition. Winners received cash prizes and certificates sponsored by the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, Nagaland.

Fire personnel explained different classes of fire hazards and demonstrated the use of water, foam, dry powder and carbon dioxide extinguishers. Practical sessions on gas cylinder leakages were also held, with students receiving hands-on training.

In Kiphire, the week-long observance honoured firefighters who died in the line of duty and commemorated the 1944 Bombay Dock Explosion. Programmes focused on fire safety awareness in schools, hospitals and public spaces, along with sports events under the Fit India Movement.

Essay competition winners in Kiphire were Suli T. Sangtam, Ivy C. Sure and Suzila L. Sangtam. Nineteen students from Agape Higher Secondary School participated.
