Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, while congratulating the elected council members, stressed the importance of a regional party. Rio assured that the NDPP would safeguard Naga culture, traditions, and customary practices. He clarified that despite being a BJP ally nationally, NDPP in Nagaland adheres to its own ideology and principles.

Referring to Naga political history, he underscored the regional party’s responsibility to the Nagas. He pledged that NDPP would provide a platform for the youth to protect Naga customs, traditions, and cultures.

Minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, urged the elected councils to seek advice from elders and minimize internal frictions. He encouraged the elected municipal and town council members to prioritize the well-being of their respective towns.

Representatives from Mangkolemba Town Council were absent from the event. NDPP candidate Supongtsungba of Kumpani Ward, Mangkolemba explained to MT that they were informed in advance about a second phase of felicitation.

“We were informed of a second phase of felicitation. Due to the first phase’s capacity constraints, they couldn’t accommodate us,” said the NDPP candidate. When asked for specifics, he mentioned they weren’t provided with reasons for the exclusion but only informed that there would be a second phase of felicitation.

When asked why the felicitation program was held in Kohima instead of Mokokchung, the NDPP President Mokokchung Region said, “To give a break to our party workers and the candidates after the month-long stressful campaigning”.
