The Nagaland state unit of the Janata Dal (United) has appealed to the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to implement “coalition spirit in Nagaland as per the NDA principles at the Centre” while stating that it was “deeply disheartened” by the result of the recently declared Lok Sabha election in Nagaland state.
In a press release, the JD(U) Nagaland also stated that the ministers and advisors from whose assembly constituencies the NDPP Lok Sabha candidate Dr Chumben Murry failed to win should resign on moral grounds as they have been “reduced to a minority in their own constituencies.”
The Nagaland state unit of the Nitish Kumar-led party also said that a detailed analysis of the results by assembly constituency shows that the NDPP candidate won in only thirteen out of forty assembly constituencies, with the remaining twenty-seven going in favor of the Indian National Congress party.
“Even more shameful is that only four cabinet ministers, including the Chief Minister, managed to secure a win for the NDPP candidate in their respective constituencies. Furthermore, only five of the numerous advisors from the current government could win for the NDPP candidate,” JD(U) Nagaland said.
Terming this as a “significant embarrassment,” the JD(U) Nagaland said that the Chief Minister must reflect on these results and take necessary action against those responsible for the “historically infamous” defeat of the ruling government’s sponsored candidate in the Lok Sabha election.
“Moreover, the top ranks and members of the NDPP and BJP should also resign on moral grounds,” it added.
The JDU also appealed to the Chief Minister to not only implement “coalition spirit” but also to “accommodate legislators from different political parties who are part of the NDA at the Centre.”
