The Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU) held its General Conference cum Sachü Scholarship Award event under the theme, “Future Forward: Enroute to 100,” at the Kohima Village Council Hall on January 8, 2025. The Director of Information & Public Relations, Dzüvinuo Theünuo, was the theme speaker.
In her address, Theünuo commended KVSU for its 15-year vision plan aimed at celebrating the Union’s 100th anniversary, as it approaches its 85th year since inception. She emphasized that today’s students would bear the responsibility of carrying the Union forward during its centenary. “Put your best efforts into everything you do, and look forward to the milestone,” she urged.
Theünuo highlighted that the Union belongs to everyone — past, present, and future. She encouraged collective participation in its activities for the welfare of the village. “The KVSU is a union that oversees human resource development. Uplifting and managing people in the right way is paramount,” she stated. Theünuo also stressed the importance of self-preparation and constant upgradation to keep pace with global changes.
She pointed out that human resource development is not confined to education alone but extends to every endeavor aimed at the betterment of society. Citing Greek philosophy, she explained that wisdom and good character are traits learned and adopted through perseverance and practice from childhood. She also referenced the enduring traditions and values of advanced nations, which continue to impact society.
Theünuo addressed the enhancement of the economy and the importance of climate change awareness. She urged the KVSU to keep the land sustainable despite societal challenges. Quoting Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, she reminded everyone that “the best time to do anything in life is today,” as we do not own the past nor the future. She concluded with the notion that “service to others provides its own rewards,” urging the Union to live by its motto, “March for the Better,” and live up to the maxim, “Well done is better than well said.”
In the session on “Leadership: Roles and Responsibilities,” Former KVSU President Keneingu Rutsa defined a leader as someone who guides and influences others to achieve common goals. Rutsa emphasized that a leader without a clear vision is not a true leader and discussed the importance of delegation, motivation, and adaptability in leadership. “Unity and understanding with the leader are key to achieving success,” he added. He also encouraged students to follow their seniors, as a good leader must first be a good follower. Rutsa identified key leadership qualities such as integrity, self-awareness, teamwork, communication, and decision-making.
The Sachü Scholarship Award, in its second edition, was sponsored by Vikuonuo Sachü, former Miss Nagaland 2019 and founder of the Mericulum Society, Noklak.
KVSU President Vilalhou Sorhie delivered the welcome address, followed by reports from General Secretary Seluokuolie Rutsa, Treasurer Kikruneizo Zatsu, and Property Secretary Sedevilie Kire.
Khriesamhalie Daniel Rutsa, Convenor of the Selection Committee, presented the new office bearers for the 2025-2027 tenure, with Khriesaneikuo Kire as President and Kiyakhrienuo Solo as General Secretary.
Special numbers were presented by Kethonuo Sekhose and Avibou Belho, while Asst. Catering Secretary Mhasilietuo Kire proposed the vote of thanks.
