A One-Day Capacity Building Programme on the MSME Competitive (Lean) Scheme for officers of the Industries & Commerce Department was held at the Conference Hall, Directorate of Industries & Commerce, Kohima, on 12 March 2025. The objective of the program was to raise awareness and further disseminate information about the importance of the MSME Competitive (LEAN) Scheme.
The program was organized by the National Productivity Council, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, in association with the Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Nagaland.
Director of Industries & Commerce, P Tokugha Sema, highlighted that the MSME Competitive (LEAN) Program is a component of the Government of India’s initiatives to support the MSME sector, a key driver of India’s economic growth. The main aim of the program is to “Minimize Waste and Maximize Value.”
He emphasized that this initiative would lead to improvements in productivity, reduced waste, and enhanced quality in manufacturing industries. He urged the department officers to actively participate and gain knowledge about the scheme, as its successful implementation will depend on them. He also expressed gratitude to the National Productivity Council for taking the initiative to skill department officers by organizing the program.
Regional Director Manoj Kumar Verma, in his keynote address, explained that the MSME Competitive (Lean) Scheme (MCLS) is an initiative of the Ministry of MSME aimed at enhancing the global competitiveness of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by promoting Lean manufacturing techniques. The scheme is implemented through the National Productivity Council (NPC), which provides technical support and training.
Deputy Director of the National Productivity Council, Subhra Seal, presented a PowerPoint on “LEAN Manufacturing Techniques,” detailing the concept and eligibility criteria to avail the benefits of the scheme. He also clarified that enterprises must be UDYAM-registered MSMEs to avail the benefits.
