Mokokchung, June 28 (MTNews): Senior Executive Member in the Supreme Court Bar Association and Senior Advocate Ranji Thomas, who is in an official visit to Nagaland, while interacting with the officials and members of Kohima Bar Association (KBA) at the courtroom today called upon the lawyers to practice law for community service and not only for personal gain.

“It is the responsibility of the Bar to propagate among the lawyers not only to take up cases to earn money but also indulge in community service to contribute to the society,” he said.“We as lawyers are not there to earn money only but also to contribute to the society,” he added.

Thomas, who is also the former Advocate General of Arunachal Pradesh, proposed that KBA establish a separate cell within their office and keep collection of the latest judgments of the Supreme Court decisions so that lawyers may have conversations at least once per week to better comprehend the rulings.

“India is a democratic country but democracy is at the lowest level as no political parties in the country are concerned for the public,” he said, urging lawyers to stand together to protect the true secularism of the country.

The Senior Advocate also assured KBA of his support relating to any case in the apex court and encouraged them to approach judges of the SC for conduct of workshops and seminars. He then appealed to the KBA to spread legal awareness among the general public.

KBA president Khriedi Theünuo welcomed the SC Senior Advocate and also sought his support in the future endeavors.
