The Ao community celebrates Moatsü Mong right after the sowing is done in the first week of May every year after a stressful work of clearing fields, burning jungles and sowing seeds for bumper harvest.

Moatsü was celebrated with full fervor at Sungratsu village on May 3 Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Sentiwapang Aier as special guest. Peer groups from youngest to the eldest presented their cultural performances. In his address, Sentiwapang Aier said that the State is a melting pot of diverse cultures. He also called upon the villagers to do away with the mindset of “living in past glory.” He also said that society need to shed traditions that are no longer relevant and to preserve those that are important.

 


He reminded the people that the advent of Christianity and establishment of Impur in the range has helped the people of Ao and Sungratsu people to make a quantum leap in bringing transformation and becoming front runners in many fields. He also said that Moatsu celebration signifies strengthening of community bonding the Ao and people of Sungratsu in particular must continue its contribution for the welfare and upliftment of Naga society.
