Mokokchung, December 8 (MTNews): In a first of its kind in Mokokchung, the Forest Department in association with the Joint Forest Management Committee of a village in the district has installed four camera traps to monitor and document presence of wildlife in the unnamed village’s community protected forest area. The cameras will be checked and retrieved after at least a month, personnel of the Forest Department informed.

 

The cameras were installed on December 6. He also said that whether to continue or relocate the cameras will depend on what the cameras capture during the month.

 

“We want to document and study the presence of the kind of wildlife in our forests,” he said on the purpose of installing the camera traps. He also disclosed that there were many telltale signs of the presence of wildlife in the particular community protected forest area.
