Imolemla’s poem ‘I Wonder’ explores the hidden struggles of those who heal and care for others
Imolemla, a resident of Kumlong Ward, Mokokchung, has earned international recognition with her poem, “I Wonder,” selected for inclusion in Petrichor – Volume XVII, an international poetry anthology featuring contributions from 28 Indian States, five Union Territories and 93 countries.

Her poem was selected following her participation in the International Poetry Writing Competition: Season 1, organised by Jollie Publication in 2026.
In “I Wonder,” Imolemla reflects on the unseen struggles of people who offer kindness, comfort and support to others while carrying their own emotional burdens. The poem draws attention to the contrast between outward strength and inner vulnerability, while encouraging its subject to recognise their own worth.
“I wonder how many times you healed others / While you were breaking on the inside,” she writes, capturing the central concern of the poem.
The work also explores how past hurt can shape a person’s compassion, and how the need to feel worthy can lead some people to over-give and over-love. It concludes with an affirmation of the value of people who bring light into the lives of others.
Currently working as a teacher at Mount Moriah School, Ungma, Imolemla has an academic background in English literature and an interest in poetry, creative writing and public speaking.
