Sovima, 29 April (MTNews): The final rounds of the Senior Men’s Inter-District One Day Tournament 2024 witnessed gripping matches, while the Boys U-16 Inter-District Tournament 2024 showcased youthful talent and competitive spirit.

In the Senior Men’s Inter-District One Day Tournament 2024 final round played at Sovima Cricket Ground, Wokha faced off against Longleng in a thrilling encounter. Wokha emerged victorious by 7 wickets, with W Thechamo Odyuo delivering a stellar performance, claiming 6 wickets for just 11 runs. Longleng posted a total of 88 runs for 10 wickets, with E ShingPang top-scoring with 30 runs. However, Wokha chased down the target comfortably, scoring 89 runs for 3 wickets in just 14.4 overs.

In the other final round match played at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Mokokchung secured a victory over Mon by 4 wickets. Nihal Rai’s outstanding performance, scoring 70 runs and claiming 2 wickets for 26 runs, earned him the Player of the Match title. Mon posted a total of 182 runs for 10 wickets, with Santosh Kumar top-scoring with 48 runs. However, Mokokchung successfully chased down the target, scoring 188 runs for 6 wickets in 34.2 overs.

Under-16: Mokokchung dominate Zunheboto on Day 1

In the opening day clash between Mokokchung and Zunheboto in the U-16 category played at Imkongmeren Spots Complex, Mokokchung, Zunheboto won the toss and elected to bat first. However, their decision seemed to backfire as they struggled to find their rhythm against the disciplined Mokokchung bowlers.

Salangdangba emerged as the star performer for Mokokchung, wreaking havoc on the Zunheboto batting lineup with an impressive haul of 7 wickets. As a result, Team Zunheboto was bundled out for a meager 42 runs in their first innings.

In response, Mokokchung asserted their dominance with the bat, posting a commanding total of 192/8 in their first innings. Salangdangba once again showcased his prowess, leading the charge with an outstanding individual score of 138 runs.

Facing a significant deficit, Zunheboto commenced their second innings on a relatively positive note, with Vinoka I Sumi (11), Kuto A Chishi (23*), and Nuika M Zhimo (11*) making notable contributions to the team’s total. At stumps, Zunheboto stood at 52/2, trailing Mokokchung as they aim to stage a comeback in the upcoming sessions.

In the Boys U-16 Inter-District Tournament 2024, Kohima emerged victorious in a thrilling encounter against Dimapur.

After winning the toss, Kohima showcased their dominance on the field. In the first innings, Kohima set a score of 143/10, with Dimapur trailing closely at 105/10 in the first innings. The second innings saw Kohima’s batting prowess shine again as they secured a formidable 197 runs, setting a target of 235 runs. Despite Dimapur’s valiant effort in their second innings with 131 runs, Kohima took the lead and proved insurmountable, resulting in a resounding victory by 104 runs. The match, held at Jakhama local ground, Kohima, was a testament to the skill and determination of young cricketers from both districts.

In a match between Niuland and Peren, Niuland dominated Peren in the Boys U-16 Inter-District Tournament 2024 clash at St. Xavier College Ground, Jalukie. After winning the toss, Niuland set the pace with a formidable 131/10 in the 1st innings, leaving Peren trailing in the first innings, falling out on 48/10. Niuland scored 88/10 in the second innings, adding a target of 171 for Peren. Peren failed to chase the target, being bowled out for 76/10. Niuland’s strong performance secured victory by 95 runs, showcasing their prowess on the cricket field.
