Manthae C Phom, a doctoral researcher in the Department of Chemistry, Nagaland University, Lumami, presented her research at the 20th International Biotechnology Symposium and Exhibition (IBS 2026) held in Kobe, Japan, from June 28 to July 2.

Organised under the auspices of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), the symposium brought together researchers from around the world to discuss advances in biotechnology, molecular chemistry and materials science.
Phom, who is pursuing her doctoral research under the supervision of Dr Tovishe Phucho, attended the event with support from an international travel grant awarded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Government of India.
The symposium covered themes including environment, energy, industry, health and food, with specialised sessions on synthetic biology, enzyme engineering and biomedical innovation.
The international forum provided Phom an opportunity to present her interdisciplinary research, interact with leading scientists from academia and industry, and establish professional collaborations. It also enabled her to exchange ideas, build global research networks and gain exposure to emerging developments in biotechnology and materials science, contributing to her ongoing doctoral research.
