The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has extended its appreciation to Achumbemo Kikon, MLA and Secretary General of NPF, for his significant proposal to rename the existing Local Area Development Programme (LADP) as the Vamuzo Local Area Development Programme (VLADP).

“This proposal seeks to honor the late Shri Vamuzo Phesao, former Chief Minister of Nagaland, whose visionary leadership laid the foundation for grassroots development through the establishment of the Village Development Board (VDB) and the Compact Area Development Programme (CADP)—a model that has now evolved into LADP,” the NPF stated in a press release.

The party highlighted that Vamuzo Phesao’s pioneering initiatives have had a lasting impact on rural development in Nagaland. Their effectiveness has been recognized and emulated by several states and even at the national level through the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS). “In light of his outstanding contributions, the NPF believes that Mr. Kikon’s proposal deserves serious and favorable consideration by the Government,” it added.

The NPF also acknowledged and appreciated Kikon’s strong stance on the “One Nation, One Election” (ONOE) proposal, in which he meticulously outlined its potential consequences. The party stated that his well-articulated insights on ONOE emphasize the threat it poses to the identity and autonomy of regional political parties, warning that its implementation may cause more harm than good in the long run. “The party firmly stands by the need to safeguard regional representation and uphold the democratic federal structure of the country,” the NPF said.

Reaffirming its commitment to advocating policies that protect the rights and interests of the people of Nagaland, the NPF recognized Achumbemo Kikon’s leadership in advancing these crucial discussions.
