The second quarter of the National Lok Adalat (NLA) was conducted across the state by District Legal Services Authorities under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority today. With a total of 11 sittings in all district headquarters, 463 cases were taken up for settlement. Out of the 463 cases, 223 cases at the pre-litigation and pending stage were settled and disposed of. The total settlement amount involved was Rs 3,17,44,813. The disposed cases were mostly civil cases, including bank recovery, telephone bills, and Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) cases, among others.

Lok Adalat is one of the alternative dispute redressal mechanisms. It is a forum where disputes/cases pending in the court of law or at the pre-litigation stage are settled/compromised amicably. Lok Adalats have been given statutory status under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

Along with the rest of the state and country, the second quarter of the National Lok Adalat (NLA) was conducted in Mokokchung by the Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority on 11 May 2024.

Mokokchung DLSA conducted the NLA at District Court with Julian Sitlhou, secretary, Mokokchung DLSA as the presiding officer. Watitemjen, Chubarenla, Tajungla, and Limanungsang were the conciliators. A total of 19 pre-litigation cases were taken up, and 11 cases were settled. The total settlement amount was Rs 16,14,718.

Dimapur DLSA conducted the NLA at the District Court Complex today. 102 cases were taken up, out of which 97 were at the pre-litigation stage and 5 at the litigation stage. Out of these, 100 cases were settled. The total settlement amount was Rs 1,82,87,205.

Kohima DLSA conducted the NLA along at District Court Complex Kohima. Duvelu Vero NJS, Chairman Kohima DLSA & Principal District and Sessions Judge Kohima was the presiding officer, and Panel Lawyers acted as conciliators. Altogether 100 pre-litigation bank recovery, PHE (water bill), telephone, and 3 pending bank recovery cases were taken up. Twenty-four pre-litigation cases were settled through the NLA. The total outstanding amount was Rs 38,875,90.5, and the total amount of settlement was Rs. 17,367,11. Therefore, a total of Rs. 21,508,79.56 was waived off during the NLA in Kohima.

Kiphire DLSA conducted the NLA today at Kiphire District Court Complex. A total of 7 pre-litigation bank loan recovery cases were taken up, out of which 6 cases reached an amicable settlement. Banks present were SBI and Nagaland State Cooperative Bank. The total settlement amount on conclusion was Rs 3,83,095 out of the outstanding amount of Rs 7,65,714.

Longleng DLSA conducted the NLA today at the conference hall, District Court Longleng. Altogether 4 cases were taken up and disposed of. The total settlement amount is Rs 2,65,990.

Wokha DLSA conducted the NLA at District Court Complex. Fifteen matters of pre-litigation bank recovery cases of SBI, Nagaland Rural Bank, Central Bank & Cooperative Bank were taken up and disposed of with a settlement amount of Rs 6,94,436.

Zunheboto DLSA conducted the NLA at District Court Complex, Zunheboto. Six pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up and disposed of with a settlement amount of Rs 8,35,281.

Tuensang DLSA conducted the NLA at District Court Complex. 137 bank recovery cases were taken up, and 12 bank cases were disposed of with a settlement amount of Rs 13,50,321.

The Phek DLSA conducted the NLA on 11 May 2024 at District Court Complex. Twenty-nine matters of pre-litigation bank recovery cases of SBI (Phek and Meluri) and NStCB (Phek, Pfutsero, and Chozuba) respectively were taken up and disposed of with a settlement amount of Rs 13,58,151.

In Peren, the Peren DLSA took up 6 cases and disposed of them. The total settlement amount was Rs 45,60,000.

Mon DLSA took up 35 cases and disposed of 10 cases at a settlement amount of Rs 6,58,905.
