The power department has begun installation of smart electricity meters in Mon Town under the Centre’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), while urging consumers not to spread rumours or misinformation regarding the new system.
In a public advisory, SDO Electrical Sub-Division Mon Thanyalo Kath said the smart metering initiative is being implemented as part of the Government of India’s power sector digitalisation programme aimed at improving transparency, billing accuracy and energy management.

According to the department, installation work is being carried out by authorised agencies and officials, and consumers have been requested to cooperate with installation teams during the ongoing rollout.
The department also cautioned the public against believing or circulating “false news” and unverified information relating to smart meters, stating that misinformation could create unnecessary confusion and fear among consumers.
Officials said consumers seeking clarification or official information should contact the department or authorised ANVIL officials.
