Marking the beginning of a landmark cultural project, the Construction Committee of the Sangtam Heritage Village Gate at Sanphure officially commenced work with a dedicatory prayer service. The prayer, led by Pastor Thsarise of Longmatra Town Baptist Lithro, sought divine blessing for the successful completion of the long-anticipated gate.

The ceremony was followed by a message from the Vice President of the United Sangtam LIKHUM Pümji, who expressed hope that the heritage gate would stand as a lasting symbol of unity and cultural pride for the Sangtam community.

A consultative meeting was later held with various organizations and village elders. Representatives from the United Sangtam LIKHUM Pümji, Akedha Sangtamlarü Thsingmüjang (AST), United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC), Longmatra Area Students’ Union (LASU), and elders from Sanphure village participated in the discussions.

The Construction Committee informed the gathering that the project is being carried out entirely through crowd funding. Contributions have come from well-wishers within the community, and the committee expressed deep gratitude for the support received so far. They also appealed for continued assistance from individuals and organizations who wish to contribute to the initiative.

In a notable gesture of support, the United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC), in collaboration with the Department of Power, donated over 15 electric poles. These will be used to install street lighting around the gate area, enhancing visibility and safety during night-time events.

Seen as a vital step in preserving Sangtam heritage, the village gate is expected to serve not only as a cultural landmark but also as an inspiration for future generations.
