A five day workshop on “Digital Research Tools in Social Science and Humanities,” organised by the Research Development Cell, Kohima College, began on Monday with a focus on strengthening research skills.

Funded by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, the workshop has brought together faculty, scholars and students to engage in methodology, academic writing, data analysis and ethical use of digital tools.

The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Konei Nakhro, while Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vupru declared the programme open and urged participants to adopt rigorous research practices.

Academic sessions were led by Khrieneikuo Zumu, who described research as a systematic process of understanding social reality and explained key distinctions between methodology and methods. He also highlighted research approaches such as quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods.

Participants will attend sessions on literature review, referencing, plagiarism, proposal writing and fieldwork, along with training in SPSS, LaTeX, Zotero and Mendeley.

The workshop will conclude with sessions on ethical use of artificial intelligence and academic publishing, followed by a valedictory programme.
