The Mongsenyimti Senso Telongjem Mokokchung Town today inaugurated a multipurpose hall worth more than one crore, called ‘Watem,’ at Sungkomen Ward, Mokokchung. The building was inaugurated by Tongpang Ozukum, Advisor, Water Resources, Government of Nagaland.

The idea for the multipurpose hall was first conceptualized in a meeting in 2011. According to Nungshimayang, the convenor of the construction committee, the project involved significant fundraising, contributions, donations, and collections within the Mongsenyimti community. The total collection from 2012 to 2024 amounted to about Rs 1,88,49,000. The committee report stated that the construction of the building alone cost Rs 1,87,32,743 while other miscellaneous expenses, including water tanks, totaled more than Rs 14 lakhs.

Congratulating the achievement, Tongpang Ozukum noted that this is the first building completed entirely by the various Mongsenyimti Unions. He lauded the people for their unity, cooperation, and contributions. He mentioned that this building is a sign of God’s blessing and urged the community to build strong relationships with each other and maintain good relations with the rest of the six ranges, highlighting its importance.

According to Aosunep, the program convener, the multipurpose hall can be used for various events such as birthday parties, weddings, and other occasions. He informed that anyone hiring the hall will be given a complimentary two-thousand-liter water tank. He also mentioned that the seating capacity is around 500 seats. Matsung Longkumer, Associate Pastor of Sungkomen Baptist Arogo, speaking at the program encouraged the community to maintain unity and peace, stating that where there is no peace, there is no unity, and urged the people to find peace within themselves to achieve unity.

Short greeting speeches were also delivered by the President of MSTTM, the Chairman of Sungkomen Ward Yimden, and the President of Mongsenyimti Senso Mungdang. The program was chaired by Yalikala, with N Angum Jamir, Chairman of the Mission Board, pronouncing the dedicatory prayer, and Imlimatsung Ozukum, President of MSTMT, delivering the welcome address. The program also included a special song by Walumeren.
