In light of the high traffic congestion caused by the festive season and ongoing rehabilitation work on the Road Over Bridge (ROB) near Hotel Senti, the Commissioner of Police, Kevithuto Sophie, IPS, issued an order on December 7, 2024, implementing an odd-even traffic regulation system within the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) jurisdiction.
The order, effective from December 10, 2024, will remain in force from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily for one month or until the ROB rehabilitation work is completed, whichever comes first.
Under the odd-even system:
· Odd dates (e.g., 11th, 13th, 15th): Only vehicles with registration numbers ending in odd digits (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) will be allowed to ply.
· Even dates (e.g., 10th, 12th, 14th): Only vehicles with registration numbers ending in even digits (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) will be permitted.
Exemptions have been granted to government-registered vehicles, emergency services, school buses, public transport vehicles, and taxis (including 2- and 4-wheelers), but not autorickshaws. Sundays, December 25 (Christmas), and January 1 (New Year) are excluded from these restrictions.
The order aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and public convenience, urging citizens to cooperate and opt for carpooling where possible. Violators will face penalties under Sections 177 and 179 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
The public is requested to minimize unnecessary travel to facilitate the successful implementation of this traffic regulation.
Hello. This post was really interesting, especially since I was looking for thoughts on this issue last Thursday.
