Longchem, 29 May (MTNews): Vice Chairman of the Longchem Adhoc Town Committee, Chuba Longkumer, has conveyed heartfelt appreciation on behalf of all Longchem residents to the Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department, Mokokchung for their prompt response in dispatching the Veterinary Team to the region.

In particular, Dr Wapangsashi, Farm Manager of Poultry Farm Mokokchung, and his dedicated Mobile Veterinary Unit were acknowledged for “their sacrifices beyond their duty.”

Drawing attention to the pressing issue, Longkumer emphasized that the Longchem Block/Range has been deprived of a Veterinary Doctor since 2021, and the office itself remains non-functional. He further highlighted the dire situation, describing the block as ‘neglected and underdeveloped’ due to the lack of essential government facilities and services.

According to the VC, the year has brought great misfortune to many families in Longchem and neighboring villages, as numerous pigs have succumbed to an epidemic, resulting in significant financial losses.

“Many of the families rear pigs as their source of income and this epidemic struck them hard,” he said.

Longkumer earnestly appealed to the government to address this critical need by appointing a Veterinary Doctor to Longchem Block for which he said, they would be ‘forever grateful’.
