Hailing from Tizit Town, Zangkham Village under the Mon district, Laiwang Konyak is a rising star in the football world. In an exclusive interview with Mokokchung Times, he expressed his delight at joining Shillong Lajong FC and eagerly looked forward to the upcoming season. The young striker expressed his determination to contribute significantly to the team’s success by scoring goals and securing victories.

“It feels great to be a part of a legendary club like Lajong. And I’m very excited for the season ahead and hope to help the team by scoring many goals and winning games for the team,” said Konyak.

Having set ambitious goals for himself, Konyak also shared his dreams saying, “I hope that one-day, I will be able to play in the Indian Super League and also get my chance to play for India.”

Prior to joining Shillong Lajong FC, Konyak has played for several clubs, including Gauhati Town Club, Caligat MS Kolkata, RBI Chennai, Minerva Academy Punjab, Delhi FC, and Gokulam Kerala FC. During his time at Delhi FC, he showcased his goal-scoring ability in the I-League second division qualifying round and the state league, impressing with his performances as a substitute.

However, seeking new opportunities and challenges, he made a move to Gokulam Kerala FC. Unfortunately, the stint did not go as planned, as he struggled to secure a place in the senior team. Following this setback, he made a decision to part ways with the club, along with goalkeeper James Kithan who retained himself in Delhi FC.

Not one to be deterred by setbacks, Konyak continued to showcase his skills and perseverance, catching the attention of Shillong Lajong FC. The club’s coaching staff was thoroughly impressed, leading to his signing with the club for the next two seasons.
Now, as part of Shillong Lajong FC, Konyak will have an opportunity to play in the Durand Cup, Hero I-League, and the state league this season while fighting for his position in the club.

A product of the State Football Academy Dimapur, Konyak now joins the ranks of talented players such as goalkeeper Neithovilie Chalieu and winger Pursunep Longkumer, further strengthening Shillong Lajong FC‘s squad.
