MLA and Advisor to the Chief Minister for Law and Justice and Land Revenue, Government of Nagaland, TN Mannen called on the people of Khanimu village to work collectively towards building a prosperous future through unity, responsible citizenship and new economic opportunities.
Mannen was speaking at the inauguration of the new Panchayat Hall of Khanimu village on Saturday. He said development does not happen by chance, but through unity, open discussion, democratic decision-making and respect for both majority opinion and individual voices.
“When we decide together, we move forward together,” he stated.
The Advisor urged villagers to collectively protect government-assisted public assets, including roads, community halls, water sources, schools and health centres. He said such facilities belong to the entire community and should be maintained with the same care given to private property. He also called on citizens to safeguard common resources through cleanliness, timely repairs and responsible use.
Mannen particularly encouraged young people to explore self-employment rather than wait for increasingly limited government jobs. He suggested opportunities in modern agriculture, animal husbandry, local crafts, tourism, services and small enterprises, especially with the village’s improving connectivity.
“Become positive contributors to society rather than passive seekers of limited and uncertain government jobs,” he said.
Highlighting Khanimu’s location under the Asetkong range, Mannen said the village has considerable potential because of road connectivity to Mokokchung town, the district headquarters and neighbouring Assam. He said the links could facilitate trade, business and access to wider markets.
He called for an environment that welcomes young and progressive minds and supports flexible land policies capable of attracting investment.
“An environment of trust, clarity and fairness would encourage entrepreneurs and external investors to see Khanimu as a place worth investing in,” he stated.
Mannen said transparent processes and community support would be essential to convert the village’s advantages into lasting progress.
The programme began with a welcome address by Tongpang Aier, Chairman of Khanimu Village Council. N Temjen Aier, Chairman of Longjang Medemsanger Putu Menden, and Yapangla, Project Director, DRDA Mokokchung, also spoke. A song was presented by Lima Imchen, Choir Master of LBA. Tsüpong Aier, Council Member of Khanimu, delivered the closing remarks, followed by a vote of thanks from S Imli Aier, Deacon of KBA.
