Imphal, 19 July (MTNews): The Naga Hoho has strongly condemned the brutal and cold-blooded murder of Mrs M Lucy Maring in Imphal, terming the heinous act as a grave violation of human rights and an assault on the principles of peace and harmony that they strive to uphold.

Calling on the Government of Manipur to fulfill the agreement signed with the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), facilitated by the United Naga Council, the Naga Hoho emphasized the importance of honoring commitments made in the agreement to ensure the peaceful coexistence of different ethnic groups in the region.

“As an organization deeply concerned about the prevailing ethnic conflict in Manipur, the Naga Hoho remains vigilant,” it said. It also asserted that while it stands for peace restoration in the state, it cannot remain silent “when the Nagas are targeted or dragged into this conflict orchestrated by state agencies in collusion with radical civil society organizations and extremist groups.”

In light of the situation, the Naga Hoho called upon both the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to expedite dialogues and actively seek a middle ground between the warring ethnic groups.

“It is crucial that these negotiations prioritize a peaceful resolution and avoid further escalation of bloodshed and violence. We urge all parties involved to engage in meaningful dialogue and demonstrate a genuine commitment to finding a just and amicable solution,” the hoho stated.

Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to peace, justice, and the well-being of all communities in Manipur, the Naga Hoho said it was ready to lend its support and contribute to any efforts aimed at fostering understanding, reconciliation, and sustainable peace in the region.
